Really should call this blog Blow Out Weekend, I mean it’s what the Album is likely to be called after all.. ah stuff it I was starting with “I just need somebody to love”, can’t be bothered now.
you know that saying about “it’s like riding a bike?” yeah my blogs are nothing like riding a bike. If anything it’s like riding a crocodile, on a unicycle with a square wheel. I’ve just been sitting around here, watching the Lions take on the Dees (can’t believe Hanley missed that mark). Really having a hard time getting my thoughts on screen!!
My plan was to recap my, what feels like ages ago; but was only like a month ago, trip to Melbourne to see Top Gear. Either my attention is being stolen by this game (highly likely) OR it’s been so long that my … what was I saying? Oh classic crap memory of mine. let’s go with attention stolen by the game!
Did I mention that recently I’ve bought a new Macbook Pro? No? well I best see if I’ve taken a snap shot of that
…
Nope, apparently I never took one, though I do have a photo of my hairy face! which I shall strategically place either directly at the bottom or somewhere to the right, just a smidgen down… OR here! I could take a photo about now, but I’m feeling lazy and can’t be bothered attempting to get the lighting right so you can see the difference between the two (I still have my 13” MacBook) do love the new MacBook mind you. it is some what bigger and inherently less portable then the MacBook but the expanded screen real estate makes it easier to do more at once. Where as with the Macbook I’m now kind of using it as a specialised task machine. (ie twitter is running on the Pro, along with YouTube, whilst on the MacBook I can only see iWeb. Still haven’t moved everything over, which is something I was going to do today.. but I dunno just been feeling lazy this week.. and last week.. and the week before.
Other than that, I’m about to hit 24. Which is crazy, it doesn’t really feel like I have done all that much since leaving school (a little over 5 YEARS ago) Guess it’s time to start thinking about what I want to do. I’ve put my move to Adelaide on hold for a year, Maybe my 25th Birthday is the day it all starts happening (procrastination ftw!)
Right let’s see if we remember the haps of last week. week? I mean month!
So flew down to Melbourne on Thursday the 10th, Business class baby… but not from Darwin to Alice Springs, because “apparently” there is no Business class on that leg, stooped!! Had this weird as breakfast, it was like an omelette but with, I don’t know? Salsa in the middle it was nice as! Randomest part of breakfast was the pieces of potato (yes you can find a link to all the photos, including breakfast, here!)
Caught up with a colleague at the airport, in the morning, they were on the way to Sydney I think.. but turns out there was a thunder storm within 5 Kms of the airport so my plane was delayed, fortunately I was in the QANTAS Club, Finally got on board and flew off to Melbourne… via Alice Springs. Got to Alice Springs thinking “oh yeah, because of my delayed take off from Darwin, this will totes lower my stop over in Alice” … I was wrong, dang it!
Finally got Melbourne around 3pm Melbourne time, got off the flight and called my cousin, who was popping over from Adelaide, I beat her over, booyah!! and also found the birds, inside the airport, double booyah!!
After picking up her bags, then her blood (aka coffee), then her oxygen (aka a ciggie) we called my Aunt, who we were staying with and waited in the miserable weather that was Melbourne. They don’t actually live in Melbourne, but on this beautiful large property out whoop whoop (well whoop whoopish) and this was my cousin’s first trip so there was the obligatory tour. However I basically had a prior engagement at the pub, so wasn’t there long!
The next morning involved eggs, mmm eggs!
This was also the morning of Top Gear, so had to make sure we had all our tickets and what not. Headed into the city via a train, bought some lollies (they have a lolly shop like right there and you pick your own!!) did some walking, hopped on a Tram, had some coffee, caught up with my Uncle, gave him his ticket (he was still working) had more coffee, more walking, then took a train to the Melbourne Show Grounds. I was wearing jeans at this point, expecting the night to be cold. I think that was a bad idea, because it was apparently one of the first times they had a proper summer day. It was hot!
Did a lot of walking around outside Top Gear, really should’ve got more photos of the cars and events. it was so massive, especially compared to Sydney’s one in 2010. I hope they have it in Melbourne again next year. or even back in Brisbane, I keep going to different cities! But I still had a great time. As with last year, did the corporate ticket thing, which was good. nice cool drinks and fantastic mini eats!
My only gripe, was because soooo many people had paddock passes it was hard to appreciate all the cars through the butt load of people and the public transports last train left like 20 minutes after the show ended. Not much time at all, you need to perfect the elbows up method. Otherwise a fantastic show (I know this because it felt too short!) great seats; first row, directly in front in the middle. Spent a portion of the show with Clarkson, May and Jacobson standing in front of me & the self conscious bastard that I am had this stupid grin on my face the whole time, part because I was hoping to not look stupid if the camera caught any of me (mission failed) and part because IT WAS SO COOL!
So we took the train back to the train station, as you do, I think it’s the Southern Cross Station? and as we were pulling in I look to my right, POURING out of the MCG were Essendon and Collingwood supporters after the NAB Cup final. Oh. My. Chuck Norris. It was epic. I so need to see a match there! Needless to say, made dash to the next train so we could get some seats. It was a long ride back home, late at night.
The next day, we had breakfast, then headed into town to see markets.. the name of which I can’t recall the name of. Started with P, I think?

When flying into Melbourne, QANTAS showed off these Bratwurst sausages, on the TV, the power of suggestion was too stong, thus I mentioned that I wanted to try some bratwurst, while in Melbourne, hence the trip to the Markets, which were SOO cool. I also had some Bratwurst at Top Gear Live. it was amazeballs

then had to drive to the airport, to get me off to Adelaide, was a bit touch and go for a bit. got there with minutes to spare. But I was flying business class and only had carry on, so it was all good. Hopped the pond to Adelaide… except there is no pond, caught up with a friend in Rundle mall and basically did a lot of walking & amazeballs chocolate!
That night I saw Wil Anderson. Loved him, he was insane fun to watch and listen to, coincidentally when flying back to Melbourne the next day. I was sitting behind Tim Minchin. OMG Star Struck! Initially I was meant to fly back to Darwin Monday morning (like stupid early) I fixed that. But yeah, t’was a great long weekend, I loved it and was buggered after it all. But would do it again at the drop of a hat!
Anyway, so that’s my recap. sorry about the quick wrap up, but it felt like this was getting too long, go take a look at some photos here
Amazeballs AWAY!!!
